Sky Watch Civil Air Patrol (SWCAP) provides an additional air resource for the voluntary and professional emergency services.

Sky Watch Civil Air Patrol is Registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (registered number 1113079). Pilots donate their time and aircraft free of charge.

WHAT WE DO

LOOK OUT for people or property in danger … children being blown out to sea on inflatable craft … people stuck up cliffs … monitoring remote areas where people walk, cycle, ride horses … looking out for vulnerable people wandering - old people, mentally disturbed, substance users.

SEARCH for lost hikers, disturbed people, missing aircraft, small boats.

HOW WE DO IT

SWCAP pilots may operate independently or as part of an established Unit. SWCAP provides three basic functions:

1. GENERAL AIR OBSERVATION is carried out by pilots keeping a look out in the course of their general flying and notifying any incidents to the emergency services via air traffic control.

2. PATROLS, either self initiated or at the request of Unit Chief Pilot - flying over areas where there is a potential for people or property to be at risk - coastline, cliffs, railway lines, remote areas.

3. RESPONSE, providing simple air observation and search capacity to supplement the resources of the emergency services, Coastguard, some police forces, mountain rescue, etc. For example SWCAP have found missing persons for mountain rescue teams, located downed aircraft for Air Traffic, called in fires in remote locations, found missing parts from a crashed aircraft for Air Accident Investigation, carried out search safety patrols for Coastguard, etc.
